Causes of Foot Pain
Everyday Foot Pain
Pain in the foot can be caused by several factors. Your feet endure a lot of wear and tear from just standing and walking around. They truly are the foundation of your skeletal structure. Our feet bear the burden of our body weight and propel us up and down stairs.
Some people can have acute foot pain conditions that come on due to injuries. Others can have chronic problems that come on periodically or culminate in a significant episode that restricts them from normal daily function.
Some spinal and skeletal imbalances may be caused by abnormal mechanics of one or both of your feet. Even chronic health conditions such as fibromyalgia and arthritis can be caused by these irregular mechanics.
Athletics and Foot Pain
In addition to the ‘normal’ conditions that our feet endure, we put extra strain on our feet when participating in sports. Some activities, which can put up to 5-7 times our body weight, can demand running, jumping, starting, stopping and turning. Honestly, it’s no surprise that so many athletes turn to us for foot pain relief and support.
In addition, some athletes may need relief from a sports-related injury or a condition called plantar fasciitis. This is where the long band of tissue on the bottom of the feet is strained, leading to pain on the bottom of the foot. This pain can often range from the toes to the heel.
Furthermore, some athletes suffer from metatarsalgia, a condition causing pain and inflammation in the front part of the foot where your toes attach.
And finally, we see other athletes experience pain from flat feet, also known as fallen arches. These fallen arches make it difficult to function and compete effectively and efficiently.

Treatments for Foot Pain
At your first appointment with your chiropractor, he/she will conduct a thorough examination to understand your injury. Then, he/she will determine the root cause and extent of your foot pain.
Once your analysis is complete, your chiropractor will recommend a plan of action to provide rehabilitation and pain relief.
As part of the treatment, we may recommend chiropractic adjustments to realign your spine and extremities. These adjustments will help to reduce the stress that may be placed on your feet.
K-laser therapy is helpful in reducing pain and inflammation, as well as increase blood flow.
We also utilizes Kinesiology taping to reduce swelling, improve stability, and relieve pain.
For some patients, electrical stimulation can be helpful in rejuvenating tired muscles.
Also, if there is significant swelling, we recommend heat and ice therapy as part of the healing process.
Sports Injury Rehabilitation
For sports-related injuries, we provide corrective and functional exercises from our in-house equipment in addition to prescribed home exercises.
In certain situations, your chiropractor may prescribe orthotics as part of the treatment process. Orthotics are custom-made prescription shoe inserts which are designed to provide support and stability for your entire body. They will correct an improper gait or alignment. For more information on foot orthotics, read about Foot Orthotics.
We have a full satisfaction guarantee on our prescription orthotics in our office. You have 45 days initially to return your orthotics to have them altered to correct for whatever issues might be going on. Then you have another 45 days after that to make sure that they are correcting your issues. If you don’t feel like your orthotics are correcting your issues, we will refund your money.
