Should You Consider PEMF Therapy?

Written By All Seasons Integrative Health on March 25, 2021

PEMF TherapyExperiencing even a small twinge of pain is an indication that something isn’t quite right. In fact, pain is your body’s way of alerting you that something isn’t working as it should.

While everyone is likely to feel an occasional bout of pain in their life, studies show that you’re more likely to fall victim to chronic pain as you age. In fact, in 2019, 20.4% of adults reported experiencing chronic pain, with 7.4% of them stating their pain often limited their work or daily life activities.

Some individuals may require invasive procedures or pain medications to help them find relief, but PEMF therapy offers an alternative solution.

What is PEMF Therapy?

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy is a pain management treatment for those looking for an alternative treatment option that encourages the body’s natural healing abilities.

Believe it or not, the human body is electromagnetic. The trillions of healthy cells that make up our bodies have a voltage of approximately 20 to 25 millivolts per cell. However, when you fall ill, that voltage drops to 15 millivolts or even less – which renders them dysfunctional and unable to heal the body as they should.

PEMF therapy aims to help reactivate these cells by sending ultra-fast bursts of electromagnetic pulses through the body to restore cellular electromagnetic balance. This process is completely painless and allows the body to jumpstart the natural immune response to begin healing as usual.

This is done by having you either sit or lay on the PEMF table, fully clothed. From there, your chiropractor will set the level for pulses per second and increase the magnetic field strength to the necessary intensity. This allows the pulses to pass through your clothing and through your body. Each session can last between 45 and 60 minutes and may be accompanied by additional chiropractic care techniques

Benefits of PEMF Therapy

Studies have shown that therapeutic magnetic field application, such as PEMF therapy, offers quite a few benefits when utilized both alone and alongside other therapeutic measures. These benefits include:

  • Decreased inflammation
  • Decreased pain
  • Decreased swelling
  • Enhanced muscle function
  • Increased circulation
  • Reduced stress/anxiety

Of course, no single treatment option is the perfect solution for every patient. This is why your chiropractor will take the time to understand what is causing your pain, as well as your entire health history, to see what has worked and what hasn’t in the past. From there, they’ll be able to guide you on the ideal treatment options available.
